2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference: Where to Next as Preliminaries Wind Down?

The 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference is winding down. In fact, four teams—Cignal HD Spikers, Akari Chargers, Farm Fresh Foxies, and Capital1 Solar Spikers—have already concluded their preliminary assignments. Another four—Creamline Cool Smashers, Galeries Tower Highrisers, Nxled Chamelons, and Petro Gazz Angels—will finish off their 11 games later today.

With the preliminaries soon to be over, the question naturally is: What’s next?

Weird Format Follows for 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference

In some ways, the format of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference is a bit weird and even unfair—especially to the teams at the very top of the standings. *Check out the full tournament format at the end of this article!

Qualifying Round Is Up Next

After the preliminaries of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference , all teams will play in the qualifying round where the top seeds take on the lower seeds in a knockout match:

QR1: Seed 1 vs. Seed 12

QR2: Seed 2 vs. Seed 11

QR3: Seed 3 vs. Seed 10

QR4: Seed 4 vs. Seed 9

QR5: Seed 5 vs. Seed 8

QR6: Seed 6 vs. Seed 7

The six winners will advance to the quarterfinals outright.

2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference

Play-In Tournament Beckons, Followed by the Quarters

The six losers in the qualifying round aren’t out of contention just yet. They will be grouped into two pools—losers of QR3, QR2, and QR6 in Pool A and losers of QR1, QR4, and QR5 in Pool B—for the single round-robin play-in.

The winner of Pool A will advance as the seventh seed, while the winner of Pool B will advance as the eighth seed. After all that, the best-of-three quarterfinals of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference will finally begin.

The Semifinals Begin as the Finals Loom

The winners of the quarterfinal pairings will proceed to the semis, which will not be in series format as is usually the case. Instead, it will be another round-robin among the remaining four teams, with their records determining who makes it to the finals. The top two teams after this round-robin will dispute the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino crown, while the other two face off for the bronze medal.

What We Know So Far Heading to the Qualifying Round

At this point, four things are for certain:

  1. Creamline, Petro Gazz, and Cignal are a lock for the top three seeds, but who’ll end up no. 1 is still unclear.
  2. The fourth and fifth seeds will be disputed by the PLDT High Speed Hitters and Choco Mucho Flying Titans will be
  3. Farm Fresh, Akari, and Chery Tiggo Crossovers are a lock for seeds 6 through 8, but the exact order is still to be determined.
  4. The Zus Coffee Thunderbelles will join Nxled, Capital1, and Galeries Tower as the bottom four teams.

Today’s games will determine which of Creamline or Petro Gazz will be no. 1 and no. 2 as well as the order of the bottom three. Seeds 4 through 8 will be decided on the final play date of the preliminaries on Saturday, February 22, at the City of Passi Arena in Iloilo.
