2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League BY THE NUMBERS: Creamline, PLDT Record First Win

The Creamline Cool Smashers and the PLDT High Speed Hitters made quick work of their respective victories in the opening day of the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League in Manila.

The Cool Smashers defeated Jordan’s Al Naser Club, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, while the High Speed Hitters showed dominance against Australia’s Queensland Pirates, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12.

Taiwan’s Taipower edged out Hong Kong’s Hip Sing Women’s Volleyball Team, 25-10, 25-16, 25-14, while China’s BAIC Motor Volleyball Club defeated Iran’s Saipa Tehran, 28-26, 25-22, 25-19.

Here’s everything you missed on the first game day of the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League.

Alyssa Valdez scored 10 points in her return to the national team in the Creamline Cool Smashers’ 29-27, 25-20, 25-19 victory against the Al Naser of Jordan.

Valdez recorded seven attack points, two aces, and a block, as import Erica Staunton led the team with 17 points in 13 attacks, three aces, and a block.

For the Al Naser, Ilisandra Klein scored a team-high 19 points in 15 attacks, three aces, and a block, while Isabela Paquiardi contributed 14 points in 11 attacks and three aces.

Despite the victory, Creamline head coach Sherwin Menses said that the best is yet to come for his girls. He said, “Importante ‘yung game ngayon kasi I think nakakaensayo pa kami ng ilang days para sa adjustment sa three imports, especially doon sa two imports na bago namin. I think one to two days pa, magiging maganda na ‘yung performance namin.”

The Cool Smashers will face Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Volleyball Club on April 21, at 7 pm, while Al Naser will take on Zhetysu on April 22, at 1 pm.

Davison had 14 points, all in attacks, while Reyes contributed 11 points in nine attacks, a block, and an ace. Salas added 10 points in eight attacks, a block, and an ace.

For the side of the Queensland Pirates, no player scored in double digits as Alisha Stevens and Lilyana Stanojevic were limited to eight points apiece.

After the game, High Speed Hitters head coach Rald Ricafort admitted that their excitement got into them especially in the first set. He said, “Mag-relax muna, ‘yung excitement siguro ng pag-join dito ‘yung nanguna, kaya medyo stiff kami nung start ng first set. Alam naman nila ano ‘yung igagalaw at ilalaro namin – sadyang ganon lang talaga kasi ‘yung kalaban, nag-e-effort din lumaban.”

The High Speed Hitters will face Nakhon Ratchasima QminC on April 22, 4 pm, while the Queensland Pirates will take on QminC on April 21, at 1 pm.

China’s Beijing BAIC Motor Volleyball Club recorded 10 blocks in their straight-set 28-26, 25-22, 25-19 victory against Saipa Tehran of Iran. In comparison, Saipa Tehran only recorded three block points.

Beijing BAIC Motor Volleyball Club captain Jin Ye led the team with 16 points in 14 attacks and two blocks, while Lu Yufei and Shan Lanfeng contributed 15 points apiece.

For the Saipa Tehran, Neda Chamlanian scored a team-high 15 points in 12 attacks, two aces, and a block, while Mahsa Saberi added 13 points in 11 attacks, one block, and one ace.

After the game, BAIC Motor Volleyball Club head coach Kuang Qi expressed his happiness at how his girls performed, despite missing some of them due to national team commitments. He said, as translated, “We’re missing a couple of players [because] of the national team, so we’re trying our best and we’re working really hard to win. It’s the first match, so they’re a little bit nervous, but we’re trying our best. I’m happy about it.”

The BAIC Motor Volleyball Club will face Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An on April 21, at 10 am. Meanwhile, Saipa Tehran will take on the same opponent on April 22, at 10 am.

The Kaohsiung Taipower of Taiwan only needed an hour and four minutes in their dominating 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 victory against Hip Hing of Hong Kong.

Peng Yu-rou led the Kaohsiung Taipower with 16 points in 15 attacks, while Tsai Yu-chun contributed 11 points in eight attacks, two aces, and a block. Eight other players scored at least a point as head coach Chang Li-Yun showed her team’s deep bench.

For the side of Hip Hing, no player scored in double digits as Pang Wing Lam was limited to seven points in six attacks and an ace.

After the game, starting setter Hung Chia-Yao expressed how the tournament would help them in the future. She said, “It’s important for me as a volleyball player to gain this kind of experience. It also matters that our team gets to participate in a tournament like this.”

The Kaohsiung Taipower will face the Petro Gazz Angels on April 21 at 4 pm. Meanwhile, Hip Hing will take on the same opponent on April 22, at 7 pm.
