Since the SEA Games’ inception in 1977, the Philippine men’s volleyball team has remained in the hunt for the elusive gold medal.
After their historic silver-medal finish in the 2019 Manila SEA Games, Alas Pilipinas has missed the podium in the subsequent two editions of the regional meet. Now, they are ready to reenter the podium after another historic run at the FIVB Men’s World Championship held in Manila.
Under head coach Angiolino Frigoni, national team mainstays and members of the historic 2019 roster Bryan Bagunas, Marck Espejo, Joshua Retamar, and Kim Malabunga will once again lead the team, with Josh Ybañez, Vince Lorenzo, Rwenzmel Taguibolos, Leo Ordiales, Eco Adajar, Lloyd Josafat, Louie Ramirez, Buds Buddin, and Jade Diquitado, all of whom played for the Philippines in the World Championship.
University of Santo Tomas Golden Spiker and rising star Al-Bukharie Sali completed the cast.
The men’s volleyball tournament at the 2025 SEA Games will be held from December 13-19 at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.
