The Alas Pilipinas women’s national volleyball team suffered another defeat, this time in the bronze medal match at the hands of Indonesia, 26-28, 25-13, 28-30, 24-26, at the 2025 SEA Games at Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Although they won the second set in dominating fashion, Alas Pilipinas’ inexperience and short preparation time reared their ugly head as Indonesia won the sets that went the distance. In the fourth set, Alas Pilipinas managed to tie the match at 24-all, only for Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi to unleash a powerful hit that put her team at match point, 25-24. In the next play, Indonesian blockers found Alyssa Solomon at the top of the net, successfully blocking her attack.

The Pain of Losing Hounds Alas Pilipinas

Naturally, coming up short of a podium finish is haunting Alas Pilipinas, starting from the coaching staff all the way to the players themselves.

“For the country, we always want to do our best. I feel really bad, but the national team is much more than this,” said Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito.

Bella Belen also admitted that the loss hurt, especially in her SEA Games debut.

“For me, masakit. Masakit talaga kahit na first time ko kasi alam kong kaya namin, e, kaya ng team namin. ‘Pag tiningnan kung paano kami naglaro, bawat isa alam na kaya, pero ayun, kinapos,” she said.

Angel Canino Leads Top Performers for Alas

Angel Canino led the team with 14 points on 10 attacks, 3 blocks, and an ace, while Amie Provido also scored 14 points on 9 attacks, 4 blocks, and an ace. Solomon contributed 12 points on 10 attacks, while Belen added 9 points.

Eya Laure and Dell Palomata each had 8 points.

For Indonesia, Pertiwi scored a game-high 26 points on 22 attacks and 4 blocks, while Naisya Pratama Putri had 12 points. Maradanti Namira Tegariana finished with 11 points, while Chelsa Berliana Nurtomo added 10.
