An exciting and likely very compelling double-header awaits fans later today as the PBA Commissioner’s Cup continues with the league-leading Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Converge FiberXers, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, and Magnolia Hotshots all seeing action.
Here are some things to keep an eye on:
1. Can Rain or Shine Put on a Show for Gabe Norwood?
Today’s first game between Commissioner’s Cup leaders Rain or Shine and struggling Converge figures to be extra special as it will also feature Gabe Norwood’s jersey retirement ceremony. Best believe then that the Elasto Painters would want to put on a show for arguably the best, most respected player in Rain or Shine history—and extend their winning run to start the Commissioner’s Cup. Can they do it?
2. Has Converge Figured Things Out?
Converge was expected to be among the top teams in this Commissioner’s Cup with a retooled roster. But the FiberXers are just 1-4 so far, with their latest loss a 103-99 setback to the San Miguel Beermen. That defeat was two weeks ago, which means Converge has had several days to work on whatever has been ailing them. Have the FiberXers figured things out finally? We’ll know later.
3. Can the Hotshots Stay Hot?
After opening the Commissioner’s Cup with three straight defeats, Magnolia has won back-to-back with Clint Chapman as import. Based on early returns, the big man is exactly what the doctor ordered for the Hotshots, who are looking to stay hot and win their third straight to even up their record. Will that be the case in Manila Clasico later?
4. How Will Ginebra Bounce Back?
Ginebra has had a win-lose, win-lose pattern to start this Commissioner’s Cup. That means the barangay might be up for a bounce back against Magnolia. So far, Ginebra’s losses this conference have been close calls, with its defeat to San Miguel, in particular, coming down to the last shot. Will the crowd darlings rise up again after a loss with a win over Magnolia?
PBA Commissioner’s Cup Action
For today’s Commissioner’s Cup double-header, the league will be taking the action to the SM Mall of Asia Arena for the first time this conference. Rain or Shine and Converge will tussle in the first game, followed by Ginebra and Magnolia going at it in the second game.
