The overall world ranking for Alex Eala has yet again dropped this week prior to her stint at the US Open Grand Slam.
Withdraws from Monterrey Open in Mexico
Despite the earlier news that the Philippine tennis sensation will still play at the WTA 500 Abierto GNP Seguros, it was then revealed that she will instead use the time to recover from her shoulder injury.
Eala suffered an injury even before her participation at the Montreal Open in Canada. She lost in the 1st round against the 26 year old ranked no. 63 Marketa Vondrousova after a hard fought 3-sets.
After the tournament, Alex opted to take a rest and visited the Rafa Nadal Academy. The alumni of the tennis academy have spent the last couple of weeks resting and training in Mallorca, Spain.
Directly Will Play at the Main Draw of U.S. Open
Now currently ranked No. 71, Alex Eala aims to have her name at the top of the tennis world as she now directly qualifies in the U.S. Open Main Draw.

The official draw is set to happen on August 21 (Philippine Date) revealing her 1st Round opponent.
This is Eala’s third straight Grand Slam appearance this year, going all the way back in Roland Garros (French Open) last May and Wimbledon Open last July. Both of these tournaments saw the most successful tennis player from the Philippines suffer a 1st Round exit.
To Play Next at the Sao Paulo Open in Brazil after the U.S. Open
Regardless of how far Alex can reach in the prestigious event at New York City, she has committed to playing at the SP Open in Brazil which is scheduled to run from September 8 to 14.
This WTA 250 event will also happen in the hard courts and will begin just a day after the U.S. Open ends.
Alex is currently seeded number 3 in the tournament just behind the number 1 player in Brazil, Beatriz Haddad Maia and American, Hailey Baptiste. Previous opponents of Alex like Renata Zarazua from Mexico and Panna Udvardy from Hungary are also set to compete in Brazil.

“I’m very happy to be playing the SP Open; it will be my first time in Brazil. I’ve heard incredible things about the Brazilian crowd, how passionate they are, so I’m looking forward to experiencing that energy firsthand,” said Eala, excited to compete in the Brazilian tournament.
