Alex Eala’s first-round opponent has now been revealed ahead of her US Open match come August 24, Sunday.
One of Denmark’s Finest: Clara Tauson
Playing in the Main Draw of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the pride of the Philippines, Alex Eala, will play against the world-ranked no. 15 from Denmark, Clara Tauson.
Clara made waves recently in the Montreal Open, outplaying Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys en route to the semifinals. She is currently seeded 14th in the tournament and had previously won 2 titles in 2021 at the Lyon and Luxembourg Opens. The 22-year-old claimed her most recent victory earlier this year at the Auckland Classic, where she defeated Naomi Osaka after the latter retired due to an abdominal injury.
In the previous Cincinnati Open that just happened on August 14, 2025, Tucson bowed out of the competition in the Round of 32 match against Veronika Kudermetova after 3-sets.
This would be the first meeting between Alex Eala and Clara Tucson.
Can Eala Break the “1st Round Loss” Curse?
If there’s one constant thing in the previous Grand Slam tournaments that No. 71 Eala played all year long, it’s that she has always bowed out of the competition very early.
In the Roland Garros or also known as the French Open, Eala gets defeated by Emiliana Arango through 3-sets. In the Wimbledon Open, Alex fell against the defending champion, Barbora Krejcikova, after a hard-fought 3-sets match as well.
Can Alex Eala finally break the early exit curse in the last Grand Slam tournament of 2025? Their match is scheduled to be played on August 24, Sunday (Philippine Date).
