Hoodie Melo. Black Masked LeBron. Untucked Kyrie. The NBA has seen quite a few scarier and more iconic versions of legendary basketball players, and a new name may join the company– ”Goggles” Anthony Davis. After being finally forced to wear protective eyewear, Davis will be entering the 2025-2026 season with a new gear.
A Permanent Change to Anthony Davis
Davis appeared on media day brandishing his new pair of protective goggles, saying that he’ll be wearing those for the rest of his career, as what his doctors strictly advised.
After suffering an eye injury, Davis was forced to undergo surgery in the summer. As a kid, AD was already used to wearing specs but transitioned to contact lenses once he entered the league. In November 2024, Davis suffered another eye injury but publicly stated that he does not want to wear eye protection.
“Goggles” AD is Locked In
With Davis’ new outfit, fans are suddenly calling him a different moniker – “Goggles” AD. The 8-time All-Star is now locked in for the 2025-2026 season and will try to turn things around for Dallas, even without Kyrie Irving.
However, will he even perform better and hungrier than ever? Will AD be just as scary–or even scarier–as his 2020 championship self a.k.a the “Bubble” chip? Will the goggles boost his shooting efficiency from deep and prove he is still a top 10 player in the NBA, or will these just make him look silly once he gets injured somewhere else again?
At least, for now, “Goggles” AD looks better than “street clothes” AD.
