Last week, Joel Embiid made a controversial statement that received mixed reactions. In an article made by ESPN’s Tim Bontempts, the 2023 NBA Most Valuable Player said that he “would probably never play back-to-back games throughout the season. Some fans and even NBA icons like Charles Barkley and Kevin Garnett were furious with what Embiid said. But, why does Joel Embiid want to refrain from playing consecutive games?

Basically, the answer to that is – SECURITY. JoJo’s health has been a recurring issue for the Sixers’ championship aspirations. As a way to protect his body, which in turn will push them further in the East during the playoffs, Embiid is planning on not playing back-to-back games. Plus, he missed 43 games last season, making it the more attainable option.

This idea is backed by Daryl Morey, Sixers’ President of Basketball Operations, to ensure that Philadelphia is in full health come playoff time.

Not only is this applicable to the former MVP, but refraining from appearing in back-to-backs is also meant for the newly acquired Paul George, who already has a long list of injuries.

However, the NBA doesn’t like this even one bit. More so that the Sixers let Embiid sit out their opening game against the Bucks on Wednesday despite no reports of any significant injury. As a result, an investigation has been launched, but the league has yet to decide on this matter.

Sixers Bow Down to Eastern Rival Bucks Without Embiid and George

The Milwaukee Bucks secured the dub in their first game after blowing out a Paul George and Joel Embiid-less Philaphia 76ers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard lifted their banner in Philly as they combined for 55 points. The Greek Freak recorded 25 points, 7 assists, and 14 rebounds while Dame Time tallied 30 points, 6 assists, and 9 rebounds.

For Sixers fans, Embiid’s controversial load management and Paul George’s early injuries could spell trouble for the team this season. The only good thing that’s about to happen is Tyrese Maxey’s anticipated breakout to become a legitimate superstar.
