Saturday’s NBA Cup action around the Association was full of spectacular individual performances, and no one was better than the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry. Chef Curry’s performance against the San Antonio Spurs highlights today’s daily notables.
Warriors Clip Spurs Again Behind Another Steph Curry Masterpiece
Steph Curry was cooking for a second straight game, exploding for 49 big points to lead the Golden State Warriors (8-6) to a 109-108 triumph over the San Antonio Spurs (8-4) at Frost Bank Center. It is the Warriors’ second consecutive win against the Spurs.
Curry fired 31 of his season-high total in the second half, including two free throws that proved to be the marginal points. Jimmy Butler was Robin to Steph Curry’s Batman, adding 21 points and 8 rebounds. Will Richard and Brandin Podziemski added 10 apiece, while Draymond Green finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 blocks.
Victor Wembanyama was sensational himself against Golden State, putting up 26 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. De’Aaron Fox added 24 points and 10 assists but missed what would’ve been the game-winner as time expired.
Clippers Break Slump, Beat Mavs in 2OT
It took two overtimes, but the Los Angeles Clippers (4-8) were finally able to break their six-game losing streak with a 133-127 victory over the Dallas Mavericks (3-10) at American Airlines Center.
James Harden led the way with 41 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists for the 82nd triple-double of his career. He also hit two free throws and a driving lay-in to give the Clippers a 129-125 lead in the second overtime. Ivica Zubac added 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Bogdan Bogdanovic added 21 points on five triples coming off the bench.
Naji Marshall, who made his first start this season, and D’Angelo Russell, who came off the bench again, scored 28 apiece for the Mavs, losers of seven of their last eight.
Knicks Extinguish Heat Behind Strong Showing from Karl-Anthony Towns, Landry Shamet
Karl-Anthony Towns fired 33 of his game-high 39 points in the first half to lead the New York Knicks (8-4) to a 140-132 win over the Miami Heat (7-6) at Madison Square Garden.
Landry Shamet backed up Towns with a career-high 36 markers off the bench, while Jordan Clarkson added 25, also off the Knicks bench. Mikal Bridges added 15 and Josh Hart notched his first triple-double this season with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. The total team effort helped the Knicks overcome the absence of Jalen Brunson, who missed his first game of the season due to a sprained right ankle.
Norman Powell led the Heat with a season-high 38 points, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. chipped in 23. Andre Wiggins and Kel’el Ware added 15 each.
