Since the SEA Games began, the Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, has dominated the basketball tournament, winning 19 of the 22 editions.
Even before the start of the SEA Games, Gilas Pilipinas already ran into an issue regarding citizenship as the SEA Games organizing committee banned Justin Brownlee, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, and Michael Phillips from participating.
Under head coach Norman Black, the team now consists of veterans Thirdy Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, Jr., Matthew Wright, Jamie Malonzo, and Robert Bolick. PBA players Von Pessumal, Justin Chua, and Abu Tratter are also part of the lineup, as well as up-and-coming stars Dalph Panipio, Allen Bryant Liwag of the College of Saint Benilde, Veejay Pre of the Far Eastern University, and Cedrick Manzano of Adamson University.
The basketball tournament of the 2025 SEA Games will be from December 13-19 at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
