The Minnesota Timberwolves recorded one of their biggest wins in the 2025–26 NBA season on Monday, thanks to a go-ahead runner from Anthony Edwards that allowed the Wolves to escape the San Antonio Spurs, 104-103, at Target Center.
It was a shot Edwards probably makes in his sleep. But what made it special was whom the Wolves superstar eluded to even get into good position for the game-winner: Victor Wembanyama.
Anthony Edwards Gets Real About Wemby’s Presence
Yes, Wemby got switched onto Edwards in that fateful play. But no, he couldn’t prevent Ant-Man from making the big shot. Even so, it doesn’t mean that Wembanyama didn’t make the explosive guard reassess the situation.
“I was like, aw, shit… I was like, damn. Do I got the shot? Do I drive him? I was confused,” Edwards said postgame about that play in question.
One-of-a-Kind Wemby
Ant-Man, who is among the NBA’s elite playmakers, then explained what makes Wemby a defensive headache.
“I’m like… I don’t know what to do right now, because he’s so tall, bro,” Edwards pointed out. “He take away everything. He take away the layup, jump shot, and he got good feet, he can move. Yeah, he’s that one of a kind.”
Edwards is right. Wemby is built different. He’s a 7-foot-4 marvel who moves like a guard but swats away shots like a center. He’s also mobile and active and already among the league’s best defenders, with his NBA-best 3.5 blocks far and away the yardstick in that category.
But at least on that game-winning drive, Anthony Edwards got the better of Wembanyama.
