The PVL All Filipino Conference continued on Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan, and this game day featured a thrilling game day and a young team zooming to the top of the standings early.
Choco Mucho Edges Galeries in Five-Set Marathon
The Choco Mucho Flying Titans chalked up their first win of the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Thursday, besting the hard-fighting Galeries Towers High Risers in five thrilling sets, 27-29, 25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 15-12.
Kat Tolentino heralded her inspiring comeback with 27 big points built on 7 blocks to lead the way for the Flying Titans. Rookie Lorraine Pecaña was stellar as well with her net defense, while national team mainstay Sisi Rondina, who scored 19, capped of the victory with big kills down the stretch. Cherry Nunag chipped in 14 for Choco Mucho, while Pecaña added 10.
Rookie Jewel Encarnacion topscored for the High Risers with 18 points. Ysabel Jimenez, France Ronquillo, and Julia Coronel chipped in 13, 11, and 10 points, respectively, for the much-improved Galeries, who matched Choco Mucho in spikes, 61-60.
The Flying Titans will take a one-week break before they next face the Capital1 Solar Spikers on November 21, also at the FilOil EcoOil Arena. Galeries will jump back to action on November 19 against the PLDT High-Speed Hitters at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Akari Tops Zus, Gets Early Jump in Standings
The Akari Chargers are continuing to show that their Finals appearance in the last Reinforced Conference is no fluke after topping the vastly improved Zus Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 on the third day of the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Ivy Lacsina, who was slowed down the last conference by injuries, was stellar for Akari, scoring 24 points built on 22 attacks. Veterans Eli Soyud and Grethcel Soltones were steady as usual, delivering 15 and 10, respectively.
Highly touted rookie Thea Gagate showed she was ready for the bright lights of the PVL, topscoring for Zus with 13 points. Mich Gamit and Kate Santiago added 12 apiece for Zus.
Akari will take a 10-day break before it takes on the Creamline Cool Smashers at Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur in a rematch of the Reinforced Conference Finals. Zus will shoot for its first win on Tuesday against the Nxled Chameleons at Ynares Center.
PVL Action Goes to Antipolo
The PVL All-Filipino Conference continues on Saturday with another double-header, this time at Ynares Center in Antipolo. The curtain-riser will be the Farm Fresh Foxies taking on the Cignal HD Spikers, while the nightcap will be the Creamline Cool Smashers taking on the Petro Gazz Angels. Farm Fresh, Cignal, and Creamline will all be making their conference debuts, while Petro Gazz will be looking for its second win.
