The Adamson Lady Falcons climbed to solo fourth place after sweeping the UE Lady Red Warriors, 25-15, 25-18, 28-26, in the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Adamson survived a major scare in the third set, rallying from an eight-point deficit, 8-16, behind Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi to tie the frame at 24-all after trailing for most of the set.
UE appeared poised to extend the match after back-to-back Adamson errors gave the Lady Red Warriors a 26-24 edge. However, head coach JP Yude successfully challenged for a net fault, tying the score at 25-all and swinging the momentum back to Adamson.
“Thank you, Lord, talaga ’yung challenge na ’yon kasi pagpalo ni Frances, nakita kong gumalaw ’yung net, eh, so hindi ako nag-atubili—nag-challenge agad ako,” said Yude.
“Hindi pa naman tapos. Kaya natin at hindi tayo matatalo sa set na ito. I believe naman sa mga bata on how they respond sa ganoong sitwasyon. Unti-unti nag-grow naman sila. Binigyan talaga kami ng magandang laban ng UE.”
Adamson Closes Out Hard-Fought Win
Adamson then closed out the match behind Lhouiz Tuddao and Nitura, who delivered back-to-back hits to complete the comeback.
Mordi led the Lady Falcons with 18 points built on 16 attacks, while Nitura added 13 points, along with 9 excellent digs and 8 excellent receptions.
Fhei Sagaysay orchestrated the offense with 12 excellent sets, while libero Althea Aposaga anchored the backline with 12 excellent receptions and 6 excellent digs.
For UE, Khy Cepada was the lone bright spot with 14 points, while Kesha Famulagan and Beatrice Zamudio added 6 points apiece.
Adamson will next face defending champion NU Lady Bulldogs on Easter Sunday, April 5, at 5:00 p.m. at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion. Earlier that day, UE takes on the UST Golden Tigresses at 11:00 a.m.
