The UST Golden Tigresses made the most of their home-court advantage, completing a season sweep of the FEU Lady Tamaraws with a 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17 victory at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in the continuation of the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
For UST, the win was more than just another result—it was a moment of redemption in front of their home crowd.
Leading the charge was Angge Poyos, who delivered 18 points built on 15 attacks, two blocks, and one ace. Despite her strong outing, the MVP frontrunner admitted that playing in front of the Thomasian faithful came with added pressure.
“Sobrang special nito kasi pinanghugutan namin last season na hindi kami nanalo sa kanila. Need talaga namin bumawi this season,” said Poyos.
“Home court advantage—hindi ko alam kung advantage o disadvantage ba ’yun kasi ang dami naming errors. Pero maraming lesson ang natutunan namin, at hindi kami titigil hanggang matapos ang season.”
Detdet Pepito Anchors the Defense
While Poyos anchored the offense, team captain and libero Detdet Pepito was a steady presence on defense, finishing with 21 excellent digs and six excellent receptions.
For Pepito, the victory carried extra meaning in her final playing year, especially with the support of the home crowd.
“Bilang last playing year ko, sobrang saya kasi sabi ko nga, ‘Yes, di ako gagraduate na talo sa FEU.’ Nakabawi talaga kami ng 2-0, so malaking pride sa school namin ’yun,” she said.
“Special din ’to kasi home court namin. Ang saya makita na nandiyan pa rin ang UST community kahit anong mangyari. Maraming salamat, at sana ’wag silang magsawang suportahan kami hanggang matapos ang season.”
The Golden Tigresses will return to the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on Sunday, April 5, at 11:00 a.m. to face the UE Lady Red Warriors.
