In a no-bearing game in the final days of the regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder continued to prove that they are the team to beat in the NBA, as they dealt the extremely shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers a 123-87 loss on Wednesday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to be on pace for his second consecutive MVP award, dialing 25 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals en route to OKC’s 63rd victory of the season.
Meanwhile, Isaiah Joe continued to be a reliable spark off the bench, hitting six threes to finish with 18 points, while newly acquired guard Jared McCain added 15 markers.
Thunder Sweep Season Series Against Lakers
With the victory, the Thunder officially concluded their season series with the Purple and Gold. All four matches went in OKC’s favor, with three of those games being massive blowouts of 20 points or more.
OKC also stayed as one of the hottest teams in the West, as they currently ride a six-game winning streak, and have also lost just once in their last ten outings.
With three games left in their 2026 campaign, the Thunder still remain in a dogfight with the San Antonio Spurs for the first seed in the West, but would need just one more win to officially claim the top spot and the league’s best record overall.
Lakers Continue to Spiral Downhill Amid Hobbled Lineup
In a game where the big three of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James did not see action, it was obvious that the Lakers were bound to face yet another blowout against the league’s reigning champions.
Now losing their third straight game, no Laker scored more than 20 points, as Rui Hachimura led the shorthanded team with 15 points, while rookie Adou Thiero notched a career-high performance of 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Thunder return to action tomorrow against the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Lakers will try to break out of their losing streak against the Golden State Warriors on Friday.
