‘Abangan Niyo Pa’: Judiel Nitura Hints at More Championships for Letran After Breakthrough Title Against Benilde

The Letran Lady Knights finally won an NCAA women’s volleyball title after 27 long years—and they did it at the expense of the dynastic Benilde Lady Blazers, who also denied the Intramuros-based squad a championship in Seasons 99 and 100.

It was sweet victory, indeed, for Judiel Nitura, Vanessa Sarie, and company, who capped off one of the finest seasons in NCAA history with a crown. And, as far as graduating star Judiel Nitura is concerned, this title won’t be Letran’s last—never mind that she’s leaving after leading this golden conquest.

“Abangan niyo pa kasi pupukpukin at pupukpukin pa lalo ‘yan,” Nitura said of the remaining Lady Knights, who proved to be the stellar supporting cast she needed for this breakthrough title. “Marami pang mag-i-improve, and syempre, hindi papayag na hanggang isang champion lang ‘to.”

Letran Is in Good Hands Even Without Judiel Nitura

Losing a player of Judiel Nitura’s caliber is a big blow for most teams. But this champion Letran squad is unlike most. While Nitura is their undisputed star and leader, the Lady Knights also boast a lineup long on talent that will only get better, wiser, and more poised.

There’s Vanessa Sarie, the power-hitting Bicolana who emerged as Letran’s second star.

There’s Nicen Colendra, who came off the bench to lead the Lady Knights’ Game 3 charge.

There’s Joralyn Panangin, who stayed ready all season long and clinched the title with an ace.

The list goes on, and it’s easy to see why Judiel Nitura has so much faith in the team she’ll be leaving behind.

Of course, winning title after title after title is easier said than done. But if Benilde could do it, why can’t Letran, right?
