First conference. No adjustment period. Just results. That’s Schonny Winston in his first go-round with the NLEX Road Warriors.

Winston, acquired in a three-team trade with the Converge FiberXers and Meralco Bolts, has wasted no time establishing himself as one of the Road Warriors’ most important players. Unsurprisingly, the PBA Press Corps has taken notice—naming him Player of the Week for the period of April 14–19 after averaging 21.7 points and 3.3 rebounds across three games.

Schonny Winston Nets Trio of 20-Point Games

The week began with a 106–97 win over the Macau Black Knights on April 14, where Winston delivered 24 points and 3 rebounds to set the tone. Three days later, against the Meralco Bolts, it was Ljay Gonzales who grabbed the headlines with a buzzer-beating three-pointer in overtime to seal a 104–101 win—but Winston had quietly put together another solid outing with 21 points and 5 rebounds. The Road Warriors win, Winston contributes. That is becoming the pattern.

He closed the week with 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists in a 98–94 loss to the San Miguel Beermen on Sunday—a defeat that stings, but one that does little to dull what has been a genuinely impressive stretch for a player in his first conference with the club.

NLEX’s Next Star?

NLEX sits at 6–2 and second in the standings. Schonny Winston’s consistency is a significant reason why.

For a Road Warriors team that has historically relied on veteran leadership and collective effort, having a player of Winston’s caliber step in and perform like this from day one is exactly the kind of development that makes a genuine title run feel possible—not just plausible.

The conference is young. Schonny Winston is already making it his own.
