Undefeated Filipino boxer Kenneth Llover is in line for a shot at a world title. But he will need to first overcome a formidable adversary—Michael Angeletti—if that is to happen.
The unbeaten Filipino will take on Angeletti in what is essentially a title eliminator on June 8 at the Aichi Arena in Nagoya, Japan. The winner, if all goes according to plan, will then face IBF bantamweight champion Jose Salas of Mexico.
Who Is Michael Angeletti?
Angeletti, a native of Texas in the US, is an orthodox boxer who owns a pristine record of 14-0. He turned professional in 2020 and has since been trending upward, in part because of his power, with 8 KOs out of his 14 wins.
At 5-foot-8, Angeletti is two inches taller than Llover and has a seven-inch reach advantage—73 inches to 66—that could work in his favor against the Filipino knockout artist. The 29-year-old American is also known for his speed, technical acumen, and high ring IQ.
Team Llover Leaving No Stones Unturned
Alex Ariza, Llover’s strength and conditioning coach who famously worked with Manny Pacquiao for five years, is confident of the Filipino’s chances against the tactical American. In fact, the Llover camp apparently has a plan already—and it is one that would hopefully lead to a knockout.
“We’ll make it a high-intensity fight with lots of volume punching and pressure,” Ariza said. “I expect Kenneth to throw 60 to 70 punches per round and should be able to take out Angeletti anywhere between six to eight rounds.”
To further ensure Llover is in tip-top shape come fight night, Ariza said he’s flying over Mexican chef Hector Pavon to take point in Llover’s meals in coordination with Los Angeles-based nutritionist Teri Tom.
Llover boasts a record of 17-0, with 12 KOs, and is the IBF’s highest-ranked contender at No. 3 since No. 1 and No. 2 are vacant. Angeletti, on the other hand, is ranked No. 5.
