Alex Eala will be facing Priscilla Hon to open her campaign at the WTA 125 Lexus Birmingham Open.
This upcoming clash between the Australian and the Filipina will mark their third meeting, with both players having won one match each.
Alex Eala vs. Priscilla Hon Head-to-Head
Alex Eala, then only 18, emerged victorious in their first encounter, winning in straight sets at the Roehampton 2 tournament in Great Britain in 2023 to advance to the semifinals.
Their rematch came a year later at the WTA 500 Ningbo Open in China. This time, it was Hon who prevailed, defeating Eala in the qualifying round in straight sets as well.
With a third meeting on the horizon, fans are eager to see who will break the deadlock between the two young tennis stars.
Hon Struggles on Grass Courts
One crucial aspect that the Rafa Nadal Academy alumna can exploit against her Australian opponent is that grass is not Hon’s strongest surface.
The 28‑year‑old Hon posted a 4‑3 record on grass last year across all the tournaments she participated in. All seven of those matches came in the qualifying rounds, and she managed to reach the main draw only once.
The world No. 94 could find it difficult against a player who reached a WTA final on grass last year. Still, both Eala and Hon are very familiar with each other’s games, regardless of the surface on which they compete.
