The Philippine Men’s National Football Team had a convincing victory against Guam, 5‑1, to open its campaign in the PFF Tri‑Nation Friendlies on Wednesday night at the iconic Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The Philippines leaned on a balanced mix of experienced internationals and emerging talents to deliver an impressive attacking display as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026 ASEAN Championship.

Philippines Takes Control Early

The hosts wasted little time asserting themselves as debutant Cole Mrowka announced his arrival on the international stage just six minutes into the contest.

After Guam goalkeeper Josiah Jones denied an initial attempt from Jarvey Gayoso, Mrowka reacted quickest to the loose ball and calmly finished to hand the Philippines an early lead.

The pressure continued to mount on Guam as Gayoso doubled the advantage in the 18th minute. The national team forward converted from close range after Jones once again stopped his first effort, giving the Philippines a comfortable 2‑0 cushion.

The home side remained firmly in command throughout the first half and added another goal moments before the break.

Defender Santi Rublico joined the attack and capped off a well‑timed run with a clinical finish in the 44th minute, stretching the lead to 3‑0 heading into halftime.

Guam Responds but Andre Leipold Answers Back

Guam managed to pull one back shortly after the hour mark when Levi Berg capitalized on a defensive mistake and beat goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

Any hopes of a comeback, however, were quickly extinguished.

Just two minutes later, substitute Andre Leipold restored the Philippines’ three‑goal cushion. Gayoso turned provider this time, setting up the German‑born forward for his first international goal in the 63rd minute.

The strike halted Guam’s momentum and allowed the Filipinos to regain complete control of the match.

Late Flourish Seals Emphatic Victory for Philippines

With the result already in hand, the Philippines continued to attack in the closing stages.

Leipold delivered the final blow deep into stoppage time, finishing off another attacking move to complete his brace and cap a memorable debut performance. His two goals highlighted a dominant second‑half showing and helped secure a convincing 5‑1 victory for the hosts.

Gayoso also played a major role in the triumph, contributing a goal and an assist, while Mrowka and Rublico each celebrated their first international goals.

The victory gives the Philippines a strong start in the Tri‑Nation Friendlies and valuable momentum ahead of its next assignment.

Guam will face Myanmar on Saturday, while the Filipinos return to action against Myanmar on June 9 still at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
