A week after Jovelyn Gonzaga led the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles to a historic first win against the Nxled Chameleons to earn Player of the Week honors, PVL scribes gave the same distinction to another volleyball who led her team to a breakthrough win: Trisha Tubu of the Farm Fresh Foxies.
The high-flying former Adamson Lady Falcon earned the league’s third Player of the Week nod after leading Farm Fresh to a shock 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of the Akari Chargers for their first win of the PVL All-Filipino Conference. She follows initial winner Ivy Lacsina of Akari and Gonzaga of Zus Coffee.
Tubu Revels in Team Effort
Ever humble, Tubu deflected credit for her strong play to her teammates and the Farm Fresh system being implemented by new coach Benson Bocboc.
“Super, super proud sa bawa’t isa kasi tulad ng sabi ni coach sa’min, hindi isa o dalawa ‘yung gagalaw, kailangan buong team,” Tubu told reporters after the Foxies’ upset win—their first against Akari in four tries all-time. “Kaya ayun, nag-work naman, kaya thankful kami kay God kasi nag-work ‘yung plan ni coach, and nagtiwala lang din kami sa sistema and bawa’t isa.”
It should be noted that the 24-year-old’s 21-point outburst came in just three frames and was a product of an efficient 18-for-36 attack clip. She also added 3 blocks for good measure.
Tubu beat out some of the league’s best for the award, notably Gel Cayuna and Jackie Acuña of the Cignal HD Spikers, Heather Guino-o of the Capital1 Solar Spikers, Chinnie Arroyo of Zus Coffee, Cess Robles of the Chery Tiggo Crossover, and Savi Davison of the PLDT High Speed Hitters. The weekly plum is voted on by print and online journalists covering the PVL.
