Two teams chalked up their first win in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena. Here is a recap of the games:
Capital1 Trounces Nxled for First Win
The Capital1 Solar Spikers bucked a first-set hiccup to overcome the Nxled Chameleons, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18, and earn their first win of the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Capital1 actually looked headed for an 0-2 hole in the match, trailing the second set 20-15. But a 10-1 blitz gave the Solar Spikers the pivotal set, and they never looked back, sweeping the last two sets for the win.
Heather Guino-o was spectacular for Capital1, exploding for 21 points to help the Solar Spikers improve to 1-3. Rookie Leila Cruz and Patty Orendain added 17 and 10 markers, respectively. Chiara Permentilla paced Nxled with 23 points but ran out of steam in the last two sets.
The Solar Spikers shoot for back-to-back wins when they take on the Galeries Tower Highrisers on December 7 in Cebu. The Chameleons will try to go for their first win on the same day and venue when they face the Cignal HD Spikers.
Farm Fresh Upsets Akari in Straight Sets for Breakthrough Win
Saturday’s nightcap proved special for the Farm Fresh Foxies as they notched their first win of the PVL All-Filipino Conference against the Akari Chargers, who are considered as among the league’s elite teams.
Trisha Tubu’s 21 markers led the Foxies, who swept the Chargers, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14, in a stunning one-sided upset. Farm Fresh at one point was down by eight in the opening set but stormed back to steal it, 25-23. That rally proved to be the turning point, as the Foxies imposed their will on the Chargers in the next two sets.
Louie Romero set the table for Farm Fresh splendidly, recording 19 excellent sets on top of her 5 points. Ivy Lacsina’s 13 points carried the fight for Akari, who have now dropped back-to-back to fall to 2-2. Eli Soyud chipped in 8.
Farm Fresh goes for win no. 2 against the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles on December 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Akari will try to bounce back on the same day and venue against the Petro Gazz Angels.
