Tuesday’s PVL All Filipino Conference double-header at the Smart Araneta Coliseum delivered the goods, as four of the league’s contenders mixed it up. Here is a recap of the games:
Chery Tiggo Disconnects PLDT Behind Topnotch Floor Defense
The Chery Tiggo Crossovers dealt the PLDT High Speed Hitters their first loss of the PVL All-Filipino Conference, 25-12, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, behind a tough floor defense and balanced scoring.
Libero Jen Nierva typified the Crossovers’ strong defense with 17 digs and 16 excellent receptions, while Cess Robles spearheaded the offense with 17 points. Ara Galang, Shaya Adorador, and Pongay Gaston chipped in 13, 11, and 10 hits, respectively, as Chery Tiggo got timely hits all game long to neutralize Savi Davison’s game-high 27 markers.
Chery Tiggo take a one-week break before taking on the Akari Chargers on December 10 at the PhilSports Arena. PLDT tries to bounce back on the same day and venue when they go up against the Petro Gazz Angels.
Creamline Defeats Choco Mucho, Asserts Mastery Over Sister Team
There was no sisterly love on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as the Creamline Cool Smashers clipped the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-22, 25-20, 30-32, 25-20, before a good-sized crowd.
The Cool Smashers were smashing in the first two sets but faced stiff resistance from the Flying Titans, who outlasted their sister team in an epic third set. Creamline, though, was not to be denied, taking the fourth set to win the match—their third in a row to start the conference.
Jema Galanza starred for Creamline, delivering an all-around game of 24 points, 17 excellent receptions, and 9 digs. Michele Gumabao added 22 markers with 3 kill blocks. Choco Mucho’s Sisi Rondina matched Galanza’s conference high with 24 points on her own.
Creamline will next face the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles on December 12, while Choco Mucho will take on the Farm Fresh Foxes. Both matches will be played at the PhilSports Arena.
