Steph Curry is still playing. The Basketball Hall of Fame is already celebrating him—and it has never done that for any active player before.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday (Wednesday, Philippine time) that Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc will open on Friday, July 24, in Springfield, Massachusetts—making Curry the first active player in the museum’s nearly 75-year history to receive a dedicated feature experience. It is, like so much of what Curry has done throughout his career, a first that seemed impossible until he made it happen.
What Is This Exhibit?
The exhibit, developed in partnership with Curry’s Thirty Ink business team, will feature video footage, memorabilia, and audio and visual components tracing the arc of a career that began with a player overlooked coming out of high school and has produced a two-time MVP, 12-time All-Star, four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, and the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made. The Hall of Fame expects the exhibit to run through the summer of 2027.
Curry did not treat the recognition lightly.
“When I think about my journey, I think about the people who believed in me, the work that happened when nobody was watching and the moments that shaped me on and off the court. To have that story told while I’m still playing is something I don’t take lightly,” he said in a statement. “My hope is that fans walk through this experience and feel the joy, the purpose and the gratitude that basketball has given me, and maybe see a little bit of their own journey in it too.”
What the Steph Curry Exhibit Means
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy placed the exhibit in the proper context—a tribute to what Steph Curry has already accomplished, and a preview of the formal induction that waits.
“For him to become the first active player to have an exhibit in the Basketball Hall of Fame is a testament to what he represents to the game, to the Warriors, to the NBA and to his millions of fans around the world,” Dunleavy said. “Obviously, this is only a prelude to his eventual induction in Springfield, but a fitting tribute to an iconic player and an amazing human being who has single-handedly changed the game.”
Single-handedly changed the game. That last phrase is not hyperbole. Curry’s influence on how basketball is played—the emphasis on three-point shooting, the rise of the pull-up jumper from distances previously considered untenable, the reconfiguration of spacing and defensive schemes across every level of the sport—is documented, measurable, and permanent.
Steph Curry is still playing. Springfield is already waiting.
