Roma Mae Doromal believes the Capital1 Solar Spikers’ revamped roster has the pieces to become a more competitive team after the Solar Spikers wrapped up their 2026 PVL On Tour campaign.
Capital1 closed its preseason run with a 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 10-15 loss to the Farm Fresh Foxies on Saturday at the Victorias City Coliseum, finishing the tournament with a 0-2 record after its scheduled match against the Creamline Cool Smashers was canceled due to Tropical Depression Maymay.
Despite the results, Doromal viewed the On Tour as an important opportunity for the Solar Spikers to build chemistry, particularly with the tournament’s all-to-play format, which gave everyone a chance to contribute.
“For us, malaking opportunity rin itong On Tour because everyone gets a chance to play. Nakakatulong iyon para mabuo namin ang chemistry and makita kung nasaan na kami as a team as we prepare for the All-Filipino Conference,” said Doromal.
Capital1 Eyes Deeper Lineup
Capital1 is expected to have a deeper roster in the All-Filipino Conference, with Alas Pilipinas stars Bella Belen, Vanie Gandler, and Erika Santos set to return from national team duty.
With the lineup undergoing significant changes, Doromal believes the Solar Spikers can build on their franchise-best seventh-place finishes in the 2024 and 2025 Reinforced Conferences.
“Siyempre super excited kasi ngayon ’yung team namin, ’yung dynamic ng team namin more competitive and doon na papasok ’yung winning mentality ng team. Very excited talaga and super blessed talaga kami na nagkaroon kami ng new players, and super looking forward lang din sa mabi-bring nila sa team,” said Doromal, the 14th overall pick in the 2024 PVL Rookie Draft.
Preseason Focus on Chemistry
Doromal was among the Capital1 players who saw action during the PVL On Tour, alongside Shaya Adorador, Ysa Jimenez, Trisha Genesis, Sydney Niegos, and rookies Detdet Pepito and Khy Cepada.
For Doromal, the preseason was less about the team’s record and more about discovering how the revamped Solar Spikers can play together.
“’Yung team namin ngayon, mas nagfo-focus kami on ourselves, kung paano namin ipapakita ’yung talents ng bawat isa. I think ’yun talaga ’yung pinaka-need namin i-work on, ’yung kung ano ’yung dynamic ng team namin and magiging performance ng team namin,” she said.
With their national team players set to return and more time to work together, Capital1 now turns its attention to the All-Filipino Conference and the opportunity to build on the progress made during the PVL On Tour.
