Alex Eala will headline the Philippine tennis team that will compete in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. She will be joined by a mix of battle-tested veterans and up-and-comers as the squad looks to deliver several medals.

The Philippines will participate in three tennis events at the Asian Games: women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The participating players are Alex Eala, Tennielle “Tenny” Madis, Stefi Aludo, Shaira Rivera, and Francis Casey “Niño” Alcantara.

A Talented Crew

All five players competed at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. Alex Eala won the gold medal in women’s singles while settling for bronze in mixed doubles alongside Alcantara.

Meanwhile, Rivera, Madis, and Aludo also settled for bronze in the women’s doubles event.

Earlier this year, Tenny Madis and Stefi Aludo joined Eala in the singles main draw of the inaugural WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open.

Alcantara reached the semifinals of the inaugural PHILTA National Men’s Open, while the tandem of Madis and Aludo not only won the doubles title at the inaugural PHILTA National Women’s Open but also faced each other in the singles final, with Madis claiming the championship.

Alex Eala, PH Team in Search of Breakthrough Gold

In Asian Games history, the Philippines has never won a gold medal in the women’s tennis events. Alex Eala will be looking to change that and is, in fact, among the favorites in women’s singles. In the men’s category, however, Johnny Jose captured the elusive gold medal in 1962 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

With these Filipino players already having experience competing against some of the best players locally, as well as experiencing the atmosphere of international competition, they are expected to go all out in hopes of bringing home more gold medals for the Philippines at the Asian Games.
