The Adamson Lady Falcons finally broke into the win column after defeating the UP Fighting Maroons, 67-60, in the UAAP Season 89 Women’s Basketball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Fighting Maroons tied the game at 40-all early in the third quarter, but Adamson answered with a 10-3 run to close the period and take a 50-43 advantage into the final frame.
Strong Fourth Propels Adamson
The Lady Falcons then opened the fourth quarter with seven straight points to build a 14-point cushion and kept UP at bay the rest of the way to secure their first victory of the season.
“The first two games were eye-opening for us, but credit also to the players. We’re a team where we can force top teams to give out their best,” said Adamson head coach Jed Colonia. “We just have to stay composed, para di kami makampante.”
“It’s really a very good improvement for us in the way we took care of the ball. Basically that’s it, we took care of the ball very well,” Colonia added.
Cheka Apag, Elain Etang Show the Way
Cheska Apag led the Lady Falcons with 23 points, while Elaine Etang added 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Cunanan led UP with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Louna Ozar finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Adamson will look to make it back-to-back wins when it faces the UE Lady Warriors on Sunday, October 11, at 10:00 a.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Later that day at 12:00 p.m., UP will take on the La Salle Lady Archers.
