The JRU Heavy Bombers extended their winning streak to three games after overpowering the San Sebastian Golden Stags, 102-78, in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament at the PhilSports Arena.
San Sebastian kept pace with JRU early in the game, holding a four-point lead, 39-35, in the second quarter. However, the Heavy Bombers turned things around before halftime, with Sean Salvador helping JRU take a seven-point lead, 51-44, heading into the break.
JRU Takes Control
The Heavy Bombers maintained their momentum in the second half, denying the Stags any chance of mounting a comeback as they cruised to their third consecutive victory.
“We started flat. So come halftime, we talked about it sa dugout na hindi ako kontento sa binibigay nilang effort. Credit to the boys, nakinig naman sila sa sinabi ko,” said JRU head coach Nani Epondulan.
Lawrence Mangubat, Chris Hubila Star Once More
Lawrence Mangubat led five Heavy Bombers in double figures with 20 points, 8 assists, and three steals. Chris Hubila recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Jalen Garcia added 13 points. Jahmir Eligado and Salvador contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
For the Stags, Niel Castor led the way with 17 points, while Ralph Gabat finished with 12 points and 4 assists. Dash Cuya chipped in 10 points.
