The Adamson Lady Falcons beat the UE Lady Red Warriors, 67-50, for their second straight win in the UAAP Season 89 Women’s Basketball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Adamson opened its season with losses to last season’s finalists, UST Growling Tigresses and NU Lady Bulldogs, but has now won two in a row to even its record at 2-2. UE is still winless at 0-3.

Adamson Clamps Down After Halftime

The Lady Falcons tightened their defense in the third quarter and carried a 53-41 lead into the final period. In the fourth, Adamson went on a 10-2 run, capped by Elaine Etang’s fastbreak layup, to lead 65-49 with just over two minutes left. Nadine Muñoz sealed the win with a layup off Kim Limbago’s inbound pass.

“Nakukuha na namin ‘yung flow ng offense namin, and we are seeing glimpses of how we want to play already, especially ‘nung last game namin,” said Adamson head coach Jed Colonia. “We just wanted to play with our identity, which is the running game and not too much of a half-court game. I think more of a call for consistency for the team kasi it wasn’t the smoothest game for us, kaya we have to do better.”

Etang finished the game with a game-high 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Muñoz contributed 12 points and 3 rebounds. Kemi Adeshima bounced back from a quiet outing against UP with a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds.

For UE, Rachel Lacayanga was the lone player in double figures with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Adamson will next face the La Salle Lady Archers on Sunday, October 18, 12:00 p.m. at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City. Meanwhile, UE will next face the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 14, 12:00 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
