Justine Jazareno’s message to her Akari Chargers teammates was simple: she would handle the defense and reception, and they could focus on the rest.

The 26-year-old libero and team captain did her part with 15 excellent digs and 5 excellent receptions as the Chargers swept the PLDT High Speed Hitters, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay for their first win of the 2026–27 PVL All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series.

“More on siguro for me, sinasabi ko lang sa kanila na ako bahala sa defense, ako bahala sa receive. Basta sabi ko sila bahala sa attack, kayo bahala mag-set,” said Jazareno.

“’Yun talaga, nag-enjoy lang talaga kami, ’yung kagustuhan talaga ng bawat isa na manalo.”

Jazareno Steps Up After Back-to-Back Defeats

Akari came into the match losing its first two games to the Creamline Cool Smashers and Capital1 Solar Spikers. Jazareno said the team talked before the game and agreed to play for one another.

“Nag-usap-usap naman kami bawat isa before the match na lalaruin namin ’tong laro na ’to para sa bawat isa,” she said.

“Given nga rin na walang nagda-doubt sa amin, I think ’yun ’yung goal talaga namin na mag-stick together and, ayun, maglaro kami para sa bawat isa.”

Consistency Is Key

Now that the Chargers have their first win, Jazareno wants them to stay consistent, especially in reception and passing. She also stressed keeping their composure when mistakes happen.

“Siguro more on maging consistent when it comes to receiving, passing, and siyempre hindi dapat mawawala ’yung leadership,” she said.

“Even if may nagkakamali, it’s normal. Wala namang perfect na player, so I think one thing ’yun na kailangan i-look forward to lagi.”

Akari will next face the Farm Fresh Foxies on Tuesday, October 27, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
