The San Antonio Spurs blowing out the Milwaukee Bucks isn’t something you see every day. But, on Saturday (February 1, 2025), the Spurs completely destroyed the 2021 champs, 144-118, putting an end to the Bucks’ hopes to end their road trip on a high note. However, it wasn’t the huge win that sent shockwaves on the internet, but rather, Victoe Wembanyama’s near-impossible shot over the towering former Defensive Player of the Year, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The 7-foot-5 sophomore made a jaw-dropping play in the first quarter that left fans in awe. After saving a long pass in the logo, the reigning rookie of the year then took a highly contested fadeaway jump shot in the three-point line over Giannis, one of the best players—offensively and defensively—in the NBA. Despite throwing it up with hands right in his face, Wemby still surprisingly makes it.

The Spurs bench and the crowd went nuts after an unbelievable shot showcasing just how good Wembanyama is. It also went viral on the internet and fans just can’t stop talking about it. Perhaps that play was a foreshadowing that San Antonio would be unstoppable.

The Bucks couldn’t keep up with the Spurs in the second half, especially with their defense slowly collapsing. Eventually, they got outscored by double-digits in the final two quarters, resulting in a blowout loss.

This is the first time the Spurs won against the Bucks since Wembanyama donned the silver and white jersey. Additionally, gathering 144 points is the team’s best-scoring night of the season. It was inevitable, given how well they were firing all cylinders from behind the arc. As a team, they made 24 threes while shooting an impressive 48%.

This victory seemingly shows Wembanyama somehow slightly dueling Antetokounmpo. “The Alien” stuffed the stat sheet with 30 points and 14 rebounds to go along with his 6 blocks. The French stud wasn’t alone though, with Stephon Castle going up for 20 points and Keldon Johnson’s 24 points off the bench.

Meanwhile, the Greek Freak posted 35 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals. Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton also contributed with 22 and 21, respectively.

The 11th-seeded Spurs (21-24) are just a couple of games away from the 8th-seeded Dallas Mavericks (26-22), so it’s still too early to write them off from playoff contention.
