The PBA Governors’ Cup kicked off in August with a groundbreaking change—the introduction of the four-point line. This move makes the PBA the world’s first professional league to implement the four-point line in regular-season games.
The four-point line is positioned at 27 feet from the basket, extending beyond the FIBA-standard three-point line, which is 22.15 feet away. It aims to “speed up the game and enhance the entertainment value of the matches.”
Historic Moment: The First Four-Point Shot
On August 18, during the opening game of the PBA Governors’ Cup, Meralco’s Chris Banchero made history as the first player to sink a four-point shot in an official PBA game. He achieved this milestone in the second quarter of the Meralco vs. Magnolia clash at the Araneta Coliseum.
