The Quarterfinals of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference continued on Thursday at the PhilSports Arena with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans and PLDT High Speed Hitters going at it again and the Akari Chargers and Galeries Tower Highrisers facing off.
Here’s a recap of the action:
Choco Mucho Holds Off PLDT, Completes Stunning Upset
Sisi Rondina and Mars Alba powered the Choco Mucho Flying Titans to a dramatic a 25-15, 12-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13 victory over the PLDT High Speed Hitters to secure the first of four semis seats at stake in the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference Quarterfinals.
Sisi Rondina fired 21 points, including the decisive kill in the fifth set decider. Alba, meanwhile, orchestrated the Choco Mucho offense with precision, recording 22 excellent sets spiced up by 7 big points. Alba’s topnotch setting led to Royse Tubino scoring 15, Isa Molde adding 8, and Cherry Nunag and Maika Ortiz contributing 7 apiece.
That balanced attack proved enough to overcome Savi Davison’s breathtaking 34-point explosion for PLDT. Majoy Baron added 17, while Erika Santos and Fiola Ceballos scattered 13 and 11, respectively.
Akari Fends Off Galeries Tower, Follows Choco Mucho to the Semis
The Akari Chargers bucked an early one-set deficit and an injury to Fifi Sharma to register a 19-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-12 win over the Galeries Tower Highrisers and book a semis ticket to the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference Quarterfinals.
Faith Nisperos did her thing on both ends for Akari, firing a team-high 15 markers on top of 13 excellent digs to typify her fantastic two-way play. Veteran Gretchel Soltones added 13 as the Chargers overcame a quiet night from star Ivy Lacsina, who was held to just 8 points.
Jewel Encarnacion led the way for Galeries with a career-best 21 points—including five straight in the deciding fifth set that tied the set at 9-apiece. But costly errors—one from Andrea Marzan and another from Encarnacion herself—ultimately spelled doom for the young, still-maturing Highrisers.
