The Petro Gazz Angels averted what would have been a stunning collapse by sweeping the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 at the PhilSports Arena to book a seat in the Semifinals and conclude the Quarterfinals of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Stunned in Game 1, the Angels have since been locked in, winning six straight sets starting in Game 2. In Game 3, Petro Gazz was all business from the get-go, racing out to a commanding 2-0 set lead with little resistance from the Thunderbelles.
Veteran setter Chie Saet turned in a vintage performance, orchestrating the Petro Gazz attack led by Brooke Van Sickle. Saet finished with 20 excellent sets and was a calming presence all-match long, particularly in the third set when Zus Coffee tried to launch a comeback.
Van Sickle spearheaded Petro Gazz’s semis-clincher with 24 points, while MJ Phillips added 10. Jonah Sabete and Myla Pablo chipped in 9 and 7 markers, respectively, with the latter highlighting her fierce effort with 3 kill blocks.
Chinnie Arroyo led Zus Coffee with 13 points, while Thea Gagate and Chai Troncoso added 10 apiece. Gagate helped the Thunderbelles outblock Petro Gazz, but the latter’s firepower still proved too much.
Petro Gazz Completes Semis Cast
With the win, Petro Gazz will be the fourth and last team to board the semis bus, joining defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers, Akari Chargers, and Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
The 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference Semifinals, though, will not feature the usual two semis pairings battling it out in a series. Instead, this stage will be a round robin, with the teams’ final records determining who gets to play in the Finals.
Semis action will begin on Saturday, March 29.
