The Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team concluded its campaign in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025 last May 11, with a third straight defeat, falling 7-3 to Hong Kong on Sunday at the Hohhot Sports Centre in China.
Went Down Kickin’ versus Hong Kong
Despite showing flashes of offensive promise, including three goals—their first-ever in the tournament—the Filipinas couldn’t hold off a relentless Hong Kong side.
Dionesa Tolentin opened the scoring in the 13th minute, giving the Philippines a historic moment with their inaugural goal in the competition. However, the celebration was short-lived as So Hoi Lam leveled the score just a minute later, and Charis Yuet Kung followed up in the 17th minute to put Hong Kong in front.
The second half saw Hong Kong pull away with a clinical performance. Cheung Wai Ki made it 3-1 in the 35th minute after finishing off a well-placed corner from So. Charis Yuet Kung then notched her second goal of the match to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Hong Kong’s Wu Choi Yu later struck twice, while So Hoi Lam also added another to complete a five-goal surge in the second half. Goalkeeper Samantha Hughes did her best to anchor the defense but was ultimately overwhelmed by Hong Kong’s offensive firepower.
Shai del Campo and Isabella Bandoja, both standouts in the UAAP, added goals for the Philippines in the second half to soften the final scoreline.
The loss leaves the Philippines at the bottom of Group B, winless in three matches and with a goal difference of -8. Meanwhile, Hong Kong secured a spot in the quarterfinals as one of the two best third-placed teams, finishing with three points and a neutral goal difference. Group B leaders Vietnam and Iran, who both earned six points, also move on to the knockout round.
