Pasay, PHILIPPINES – The San Juan Knights and the Parañaque Patriots cruised through different opponents on Sep. 12 at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay, Metro Manila for another heavy matchup in the 29-team round-robin elimination round of Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) season 6.

San Juan kept the no.1 spot in the North division and proved to be too much for the Bulacan Kuyas, as the Knights easily took the dub, 114-87.

Carandang’s 36 Points Couldn’t Hold Bulacan Against NO.1 San Juan

John Cayno Carandang really carried Bulacan on his back after he tallied 36 points including 9 triples, and stuffed the stat sheet with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.

Michael Calisaan took the Best Player honors after recording 16 points and 4 rebounds, while having an efficient scoring night, shooting 78% from the field. Marwin Taywan only played for 7 minutes but heavily contributed in scoring with 13 points. Orlan Wamar Jr., the three-point king, and Dexter Maiquez gave 12 points apiece, while Egie Boy Mojica and Amiel Cris Soberano both had 10 points. The returning Ron Dennison also chucked three shots from the trifecta, finishing with 9 points.

San Juan now has won 16 straight and is now 25-1, the best team in MPBL and in the North division. Ironically, this is also Bulacan’s 16 straight loss, making them 2-25.

Parañaque Dominates Bacolod in Lopsided Matchup

Meanwhile, it wasn’t much of a competition as well between Parañaque and Bacolod. The Patriots battered the City of Smiles, 111-82.

John Paul Sarao and John Uduba combined for 38 points, putting in 19 each. It was Sarao, however, who won the Player of the Game.

Although Tricky Dyn Peromingan had a great night, putting up 20 points and 9 rebounds, it still wasn’t enough to at least get their second win of the season. All-Star Louie Vigil gave 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, but still, the Bacolod City of Smiles are dead last in the league rankings, 1-25, and have lost their 23rd straight.

The Scores:

  • Parañaque Patriots vs. Bacolod City of Smiles (111-82)
  • San Juan Knights vs. Bulacan Kuyas (114-87)
  • Zamboanga Master Sardines vs. Pasay Voyagers (87-78)
