PVL on Tour went to Ynares Center Montalban last night, July 5, where volleyball fans saw Pool B action as the Capital1 Solar Spikers went down 0-3 in the standings while Akari Chargers finally put an end to their 2-game losing streak.

Solar Spikers Still Finding That Winning Formula

The Capital1 Solar Spikers are still finding ways in order to win games as they miss the services of several key players, including their #1 overall pick, Bella Belen against Chery Tiggo Crossovers.

This gave the Crossovers an advantage to edge out Capital1 in four sets. The Crossovers survived a late push from the Solar Spikers, who held two set points in the fourth but faltered due to crucial errors in the closing plays. Trisha Genesis and Sydney Niegos misfired in back-to-back sequences, and Shola Alvarez sent her crosscourt attempt wide, sealing the match in Chery Tiggo’s favor after two hours and 14 minutes.

Final Scores: 25-20, 25-23, 25-12, 28-26

Cess Robles came off the bench to deliver a team-high 17 points and nine digs, while rookies Jyne Soreño and Renren Peñafiel made strong pro debuts with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Imee Hernandez also marked a successful return from a long injury layoff as #LoveYourJourney mantra for the Crossovers allowed her to contribute eight points. The win came despite the absence of seasoned players Ara Galang, Cza Carandang, Mylene Paat, Risa Sato, and Joyme Cagande.

The victory gave #EngineStartCHERY a 1-0 record as they seek to go #CHERYonTOP of Pool B standings.

For the side of Capital1, now winless in three games, was led by Alvarez with 13 points and 11 excellent receptions. Genesis added 12 points, while Niegos and Rovie Instrella chipped in 10 and nine points, respectively.

The #Capital1SolarPowered will do the best that they can to showcase #TheHeartOfVolleyball as they go up against Zus Coffee Thunderbelles later today (July 6) still at Ynares Centre at 6:30PM.

An Electrifying 5-Set Win for the Chargers

In order to collect their 1st win of the preseason, the Akari Chargers had to go play a Set 5 against the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles.

Veteran players, Grethcel Soltones and Eli Soyud came through in the clutch, combining for critical points in the final set to lift the Chargers past a surging Thunderbelles squad. Tied at 15-all, Ced Domingo broke the deadlock with a running attack, followed by a wide shot from Kate Santiago that ended the contest after two hours and 25 minutes.

Final Score: 26-24, 25-21, 25-17, 17-15
