Volleyball never stops in the Philippines as both the Men’s and Women’s national teams started their preparations for several competitions this year.
Jorge de Brito is still handling the women’s national team, with team captain Jia Morado leading the training pool.
Meanwhile, 2025 will also be the first full year of Italian Angiolino Frigoni, who was appointed as the head coach of the men’s national team in 2024.
Here’s everything you need to know about the national team of the Philippines.
Women’s National Team

The National Team season is in full swing, as several players from the professional league and the collegiate league are participating.
The training pool is bannered by team captain Jia Morado De Guzman, joined by fellow setters Mars Alba, Julia Coronel, Tia Andaya, and Lams Lamina. Liberos are Dawn Catindig, Justine Jazareno, and Jen Nierva.
Also part of the training pool are middle blockers Maddie Madayag, Pangs Panaga, MJ Phillips, Dell Palomata, Fifi Sharma, Thea Gagate, and Clarisse Loresco. Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, Shaina Nitura, Bella Belen, Leila Cruz, and Leila Cruz comprise the outside and opposite hitters positions.
Alyssa Solomon and Brooke Van Sickle are expected to join the training anytime soon after their respective breaks. Also missing in the training pool are La Salle quartet Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, Amie Provido, and Alleiah Malaluan, who are enjoying their break after a silver-medal finish in the UAAP.
Faith Nisperos and Eli Soyud of the Akari Chargers, Tots Carlos of the Creamline Cool Smashers, and Chai Troncoso of ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles begged off from the national team for several reasons.
AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup
The Philippine national women’s volleyball team will compete in the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup from June 7 to 14 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
In the 2024 edition, Alas Pilipinas settled for Bronze behind Vietnam and Kazakhstan. Alas, Pilipinas team captain Jia De Guzman won the Best Setter award, while Angel Canino took home the Best Opposite Spiker.
VTV International Cup
Alas Pilipinas will be the representatives of the Philippines in the upcoming VTV International Cup scheduled from June 28 to July 5 in Vietnam.
The National University Bulldogs represented the Philippines in the 2024 edition, while the Choco Mucho Flying Titans made history in the 2023 edition as they placed bronze.
Southeast Asian V. League
In July and August, Alas Pilipinas will compete in the 5th Southeast Asian V. League. Week 1 of the Southeast Asian V.League will be on July 25 to 27 in Vietnam, while Week 2 will be from August 1 to 3 in Thailand.
In the 2024 edition, the Philippines settled for Bronze in the first and second week. In 2023, the Philippine national team placed fourth.
Southeast Asian Games
Alas Pilipinas will cap off their year as they compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from December 9 to 20.
Since the 2017 edition, the Philippines has failed to get a medal as the team finished fourth in the last four seasons.
Men’s National Team

The Philippine men’s national team is also preparing for multiple tournaments they are set to play in 2025.
Under new head coach Angiolino Frigoni, UAAP Most Valuable Players Kennedy Batas of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and Josh Ybañez of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers bannered the training pool.
Also in the training sessions are Noel Kampton, Menard Guerrero, and Nathaniel Del Pilar of the De La Salle University Green Spikers; reigning Rookie of the Year JJ Macam, Trevor Valera, and Al-Bukharie Sali from the Golden Spikers; and Andre Bicar and Shan Camaymayan from the University of the East Red Warriors.
Players from the reigning UAAP champions National University Bulldogs, are expected to attend the training sessions in the future. Some of the possible players from the Bulldogs are former national team members Jade Disquitado, Buds Buddin, Peng Taguibolos, and Leo Ordiales.
Cignal HD Spikers members Jau Umandal, Steven Rotter, Wendel Miguel, Lloyd Josafar, Vince Lorenzo, Louie Ramirez, EJ Casaña, JP Bugaoan, and Owa Retamar are also back to donning the Philippine jersey, as well as Criss Cross King Crunchers Marck Espejo, Gian Glorioso, Kim Malabunga, and Lucca Mamone.
JM Paglaon of Savouge Spin Doctors and Ike Barilea of Team1 Silay were also in attendance.
2025 AVC Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup
Alas Pilipinas Men’s will compete in the upcoming 2025 Asian Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup in Bahrain.
In the 2024 edition, the Philippines placed 10th in the 12-team competition. The 2025 AVC Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup will be a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Championship.
3rd Southeast Asian V. League
The Philippine men’s national volleyball team will also compete in the 3rd Southeast Asian V.League. According to reports, Week 1 of the tournament will happen in the Philippines, before going to Singapore for Week 2.
In the 2024 edition, the Philippines settled for bronze in both weeks, an improvement from their twin fourth-place finish in the 2023 edition.
2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship
Arguably, the highlight of their national team calendar would be the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championships from September 12 to 28 in the Philippines.
The Alas Pilipinas Men’s team is in Pool A with Iran, Egypt, and Tunisia. It would be the first time in history that the Philippine men’s national volleyball team would compete in a world-class event.
33rd Southeast Asian Games
Capping off their 2025 calendar, Alas Pilipinas Men’s will compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok.
The Philippine men’s national team settled for fifth place in the 2021 and 2023 editions of the regional meet, after making history for their silver medal in the 2019 edition.
