The young tennis legend from the Philippines, Alex Eala, drops from ranked No. 65 to No. 68 ahead of her next participation at the Monterey Open in Mexico.
Withdraw from Cincinnati Open
Due to the shoulder injury Eala suffered prior to her playing in the previous Montreal Open in Canada, where she lost in the first round against Marketa Vondrousova after 3-sets, prompted her to withdrew from the Cincinnati Open.
The tournament was scheduled to begin from August 5 up until August 18, but the Philippine tennis sensation had to pull out for a better recovery. Mexican Renata Zarazua replaced her in the main draw.
Training at Rafa Nadal Academy
It was only last July 28 when Alex was No. 65, but last August 8, she slid down 3 spots. Her career ranking was in June at No. 56, which came in after her Eastbourne Open finals grass-court appearance.
As she recovers, the Alumni of Rafa Nadal Academy go back to where it all started as she prepares and trains for her next tournament at the Monterey Open in Mexico.
Famously known as the Abierto GNP Seguros, the WTA 500 event will start from August 18 to 23. Though it’s not yet confirmed if she will be automatically in the Main Draw, just like in the Cincinnati Open, or must play in the qualifiers first.
Her Mexican stint would be vital for her Grand Slam US Open participation come the last week of August 2025.
