As Alex Eala is taking a short vacation after competing in so many tournaments, her name is now part of the main draw list for the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada.
The Road for Hard Court U.S. Open Begins
It has been revealed after her 1st round exit in the grass courts of Wimbledon Open both in Singles and in Doubles that Alex will not set focus on playing in the U.S. Open.
The tournament will span from August 24 to September 7. And to begin her preparation in hopes of another magical run at the hardcourt, her first stop would be in Montreal, Canada. Currently ranked no. 56 in the world, the pride of the Philippines is listed at number #59 in the main draw entry list.
The Canadian Open has been the 2nd oldest tennis tournament next to Wimbledon. And the 2-time defending champion, Jessica Pegula is also in the entry list as she seeks to win a 3-Peat. Other heavy hitters are also set to participate in the tournament like Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek, Jelena Ostanpenko and once upon a time the double’s partner of Eala, Coco Gauff.
The National Bank Open will start from July 26 up until August 7.
Perhaps Another “Cinderella-Run”?
It can be recalled that in the previous Miami Open which also was played in the hard court, Eala beat all odds and reached the semifinals. She lost to Jessica Pegula though. And before playing in Wimbledon, Alex also made her first WTA Finals in the grass courts of Eastbourne Open but settled for a runner-up finish against Maya Joint.
