On the night of June 1, 2025, Dyan Castillejo of ABS CBN posted on her Facebook Page that Alex Eala will next participate in the grass court of the WTA 125 Birmingham.

From Hardcourt to Clay and now to Grass

The 20-year-old Philippine tennis superstar has proved that she can play whatever court she steps on. And now, she will once again be tested in the grass courts of Great Britain.

Following her 2nd round exit in the Roland Garros Doubles after pairing up with Renata Zarazua, the ranked No. 73 player will try to showcase that her success in the Miami Open isn’t “overhyped” by Filipino fans.

The Quezon City-born athlete has dropped her ranking, 3 spots below, after her performance in the Grand Slam at Roland Garros, France.

It’s also worth noting that this is the 3rd type of court Alex will play in. She had a semifinal loss playing in the Miami Open, which was played on hardcourt. In Oeiras, Portugal, Mutua Madrid, Spain, Rome, Italy, and in Grandslam in France, were all played on clay.

Alex Eala would then face Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic for her first match of the singles tournament. The 20-year-old is ranked 152nd in the singles rankings and will face the pride of the Philippines on Tuesday, June 3, with the time yet to be announced.

Also reported by Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN, this participation of Eala in the WTA Birmingham is included for her preparation in competing at the grass courts of the Wimbledon Open, which will be played from June 30 to July 13.

Against Well Experience Tandem

“Chemistry” is definitely going to be a factor when Alex and her new partner in the Birmingham Doubles, Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland. The 25-year-old is currently ranked No. 121 and is No. 125 in the Doubles rankings.

They face a more veteran tandem of Ellen Perez and Storm Hunter. The Australian duo has been playing together for multiple WTA tournaments in the past. They have been in four consecutive tournaments together, including Roland Garros, where they unfortunately had an early exit

Despite this, the Perez-Hunter pairing remains one of the most experienced pairings in the tournament.

The 29-year-old Perez is No. 15 while the 30-year-old Hunter is No. 105 in the Doubles rankings.

The Filipina-Swiss versus Aussies match will be played on Monday, June 2, at 8:20 PM (Philippine Date & Time). The entire WTA 125 Birmingham tournament will last from June 2 to 8.
