The Thompson brothers—Amen and Ausar—are making waves in the NBA with their elite athleticism and tireless play on both ends. And no less than LeBron James gave the twins a flattering compliment when he said, “They ain’t like the rest of us,” and they’re “different” athletically.

Indeed, the Thompson twins are athletic freaks and are blazing a trail. Amen, in particular, is playing some fantastic hoops for the Houston Rockets and becoming one of the team’s cornerstones. His numbers through 36 games in this 2024–25 NBA season—12.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks—aren’t necessarily breathtaking, but are looking like a sign of big things to come.
Regardless, Amen passes the eye test. Watch him and games and you’ll see why the Rockets are so high on him. He plays hard. He’s everywhere. He makes the amazing look routine with that elite athleticism. He also plays with a ferocious aggression on both ends that can’t be quantified by numbers alone.
Amen’s defense at the moment is his calling card. But the rest of his game is rounding into form. He’s becoming a better playmaker. He’s shooting better. He’s just flat-out playing some really good basketball.
In short, sky’s the limit for Amen. Can we get an amen to that?
