The Converge FiberXers completed a remarkable comeback late in the season after defeating Magnolia on September 23.  Despite a shaky start with a 2-4 record, the FiberXers rallied to win their final four games, claiming the third seed in Group A and setting up a meeting with the San Miguel Beermen. Meanwhile, Magnolia finished with a 5-5 record and will face a daunting task against the top team in Group B, Rain or Shine.

Justin Arana and Jalen Jones Lead Converge’s Charge

Converge’s win was fueled by their team effort, but it was Justin Arana who shined brightly. He finished with a strong 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Jones was also special dropping 27 points. While five players contributed with 7 points or more.

Magnolia, on the other hand, opted to rest their main guys in preparation for the quarterfinals. But Calvin Abueva was there to lead the way with 11 points. Their new import, Rayvonte Rice, made his debut but is yet to adjust to the team’s system as he was limited to just 5 points.

Magnolia started strong, with Calvin Abueva and James Laput trading blows early on.  Rookie Peter Alfaro then took center stage in the second quarter, igniting a run with two four-point shots and a three-pointer, propelling Magnolia to a 13-point lead (40-27).

But Converge roared back in the second half. King Caralipio sparked a 7-0 run, bringing them within two points (50-48). Justin Arana then took charge giving his team the lead. The FiberXers would continue to stay ahead at that point and eventually secure the win.
