During the PBA’s 50th Season Draft held at the Mall of Asia Arena yesterday, September 7, Head Coach Chot Reyes revealed why they picked Sean Quitevis in the 3rd Round
Thoughts on Selecting Sean Quetevis in the 3rd Round
“It’s just who we think is the best available talent at #36, we can’t really be choosy right?”
That is what Chot Reyes said in selecting Ateneo Blue Eagle guard Sean Quitevis in the 3rd Round as the 12th Pick.
“What we like about Sean is that he worked out with us, practiced with us quite a bit in Talk N’ Text, and with Gilas so we know what he brings to practice, his defensive intensity. And we feel he will have a shot at trying to make the team.” Chot added.
Quitevis was a champion in the UAAP for Ateneo de Manila University. He won the title in Season 85, being a solid key contributor, but has struggled to get back in the Finals. As he graduated last year, he has spent time with the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys of the MPBL.
Playing in 20 games, he has started in 8 and has averaged 14.7 MPG, 2 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.1 APG with the Cowboys being 13-13 in the standings.
Getting Rotational Minutes for Quitevis and other TNT Guards
After losing the Game 6 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals against the San Miguel Beermen, it was clear that half of the TNT squad was injured or were playing hurt.
So when asked about how their rookie Quitevis and other guards get rotational minutes once his team is healthy again, here’s what Chot has to say:
“It’s going to be hard to break into the rotation but like I said, they provide depth. As you saw last year, we suffered a lot of injuries so having depth is important.”
No Grand Slam Thoughts in the 1st Place
In an exclusive interview with Rebanse, the multi-titled Philippine Head Coach shared that the Grand Slam aspirations of his team are not present and never were present entering the 50th Season.
“[Grand Slam] never been in our mind even in the last season. We always deal what’s in front of us,” the former Head Coach of Gilas Pilipinas said during the PBA Season 50 Draft.
“Grand Slam was just a result of paying attention to what we’re striving for but it was never [in our minds],” he added.
