The Golden State Warriors completely destroyed the young and revamped Portland Trail Blazers in their opening game in Portland, Oregon. The Dubs annihilated the Blazers, 139-104, behind the ecstatic performances of the new splash bros – Buddy Hield and Steph Curry.
Hield, 31, has already proven that he’s the perfect replacement after the original splash brother, Klay Thompson, left the Bay Area in the offseason.
In just 15 minutes, Hield finished with 22 points, while also shooting 5-for-7 from the trifecta. He also nabbed 5 boards and did all of that while he was coming off the bench. On the other hand, Curry was just a rebound shy of getting a triple-double. The 4-time champ put up 17 points, 10 dimes, and 9 boards.
Hield’s Time in Philadelphia Was Definitely Underwhelming
Last season, Hield was extremely underutilized that his three-point shot attempts dropped to 6.6 per game. It’s the lowest since his breakout in the 2018-2019 season. He was also only averaging 12.2 points per game, far from his career-high 20.2 PPG in 2019.
The 2020 3-point contest champion is probably one of the best pickups for the Warriors in recent memory. Hield is a career 40% 3-pt streaky shooter and plays tremendously off-the-ball, which makes sense as to why he’s the new Splash Brother, or perhaps, SPLASH BUDDY. For 2 years/$21 million, GSW gets an offensive threat to pair with Curry in the backcourt. The question is – can Hield stay consistent all through the season?
