Action in the PVL All Filipino Conference is heating up. Thursday’s doubleheader at the FilOil EcoOil Arena proved as much, with two contenders making an early move up the standings.

Here is a recap of the action:

Cignal Forces Logjam at the Top with Four-Set Win vs. Chery Tiggo

In the curtain riser, the Cignal HD Spikers bucked a second-set loss and a six-point deficit in the fourth set to repel the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Cignal leaned on a total team effort all game long, with veteran Dawn Catindig’s steady hands contributing 23 excellent digs and 6 receptions and the prolific pair of Vanie Gandler and Ces Molina providing timely kills and a combined 24 points.

A game-changer for the HD Spikers were their on-point serves that resulted in 10 aces for Cignal and plenty of botched receptions for the Crossovers.

With the win, Cignal joins the PLDT High Speed Hitters and Akari Chargers at the top of the PVL All-Filipino Conference standings with identical 3-0 records. It will next take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on November 28 at the PhilSports Arena. Chery Tiggo will try to bounce back against the Nxled Chameleons on Tuesday, also at the PhilSports Arena.

Choco Mucho Overcomes Hard-Fighting Capital1

What looked like a three-setter for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the nightcap took an extra set, but the team in purple got the job done regardless against the Capital1 Solar Spikers.

The Flying Titans raced out to an early two-set lead but got ambushed in the third as Capital1 put up a gallant stand. Come the fourth set, however, Choco Mucho proved far superior as it completed a 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 25-9 victory over the winless Solar Spikers.

Sisi Rondina’s 23 points and 4 blocks led the way for Choco Mucho, who also got solid contributions up and down the roster starting with Royse Tubino’s 12 markers and Dindin Manabat’s 11. Cherry Nunag, Isa Molde, and Kat Tolentino added a combined 21 points.

Choco Mucho has now won back-to-back contests after its opening-day loss to the Petro Gazz Angels. The Flying Titans will look to keep the momentum against the Cignal HD Spikers on November 28 at the PhilSports Arena. The Solar Spikers will shoot for their first win in the PVL All-Filipino Conference opposite the PLDT High Speed Hitters on November 26, also at the PhilSports Arena.

PVL Hits the Road, Goes to Ilocos Sur

The PVL All-Filipino Conference will hit the road on Saturday, November 23, as the league travels to Ilocos Sur for an explosive doubleheader—Petro Gazz vs. Farm Fresh Foxies and Akari Chargers vs. Creamline Cool Smashers—at the Candon City Arena.
