The Hotshots climbed to 5-4 after securing a crucial win on September 20. They are now tied with the Converge FiberXers for a spot in the next round. The win also officially eliminates Northport from the tournament, dropping their record to 3-6.
Aris Dionisio Leads Magnolia’s Dominance
The Hotshot’s scoring is well distributed. But it was forward Aris Dionisio, who spearheaded the attack. He played out of his mind, going 9 out of 11 from three-point range, en route to a career-high 30 points. Six players have scored 9 or more, including Joseph Eriobu who stepped up with 13 points. Zav Lucero also had a strong game, contributing 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Calvin Abueva almost finished a double-double with 12 and 9.
For Northport, they were led by Arvin Tolentino who dropped 25 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Damie Cuntapay had 13 and Jio Jalalon had 11.
Magnolia ignited a scorching start to the game, burying 18 of their first 22 points from beyond the arc. Dionisio led the charge, drilling four three-pointers, while Eriobu added 9 points. Their efforts helped propel Magnolia to a commanding 16-point lead at the end of the first.
Magnolia’s relentless assault continued for the rest of the game, leaving Northport struggling to find an answer. Zav Lucero’s three-pointer extended the lead to a staggering 26 points (55-81) at one point. Northport mounted a late rally in the fourth, closing the gap to 11 points, but it was a little, too late, as Magnolia held on for the win.
