Karl Eldrew Yulo, who moved up to seniors action only last year, finally captured his first gold medal at this level after ruling the men’s floor exercise in the 2026 World Cup Antalya in Türkiye.
Yulo, the younger brother of double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, razzled and dazzled on the mat to claim the victory in the Antalya leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series on Saturday, March 14.
Performing with a degree of difficulty of 5.3, the 18-year-old delivered an impressive routine that earned 8.800 in execution—the highest mark in the final—to finish with a total score of 14.100.
The performance proved enough to outshine Ireland’s Eamon Montgomery, who settled for silver with a score of 13.833. Spain’s Rayderley Zapata, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist, took bronze with 13.333.
Yulo’s triumph was a significant improvement from his showing in the qualifications on Thursday, March 12, where he placed fourth with a score of 13.666. He was also unable to advance to the finals of the vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
Just a week earlier, the Filipino gymnast competed in the Baku leg in Azerbaijan, where he reached the finals of the floor exercise and horizontal bar but failed to secure a medal.
Eldrew Yulo Stepping Out of Carlos Yulo’s Oversized Shadow
For Eldrew Yulo, the gold medal carries meaning beyond simply standing atop the podium. As the younger brother of Carlos Yulo—a double Olympic gold medalist and one of the Philippines’ most decorated gymnasts—Eldrew has often been viewed through the lens of comparison.
This victory, however, marks a major step for Eldrew in carving out his own identity in the senior ranks.
In only his second stint competing at the senior level, Eldrew showed that he can deliver under pressure and compete with some of the world’s best. His top execution score in the final highlighted both his composure and technical precision, traits that allowed him to separate himself from a strong international field.
More importantly, the Antalya triumph signals that Eldrew Yulo is beginning to build a résumé of his own—one that stands alongside, rather than behind, the towering legacy of his older brother.
