In a crucial PBA Governors’ Cup matchup on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, TNT Tropang Giga took on the Meralco Bolts with both teams aiming to secure their position at the top of Group A.

Newsome’s Injury Alters the Course of the Game

Reigning Finals MVP, Chris Newsome had a very tough day, initially injuring his ankle, late in the first quarter and then aggravating it in the third, ultimately being helped to the team’s locker room at the end of the game. He managed 15 points in this game. Their import, Allen Durham, struggled throughout the game, finishing with only 8 points.

Erram and Nambatac Lead TNT’s Second-Half Surge

The game was closely contested in the first half, with Meralco holding a slim 39-41 advantage. However, TNT made key adjustments in the second half, playing at a faster pace and forcing turnovers.

Rey Nambatac was crucial for the turnaround. He had 16 points.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, despite his initial struggle, regained his rhythm, finishing with a game-high 25 points and contributing a few rebounds.

The real game-changer was Poy Erram, who delivered a standout performance with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Erram’s impact was most noticeable in the third quarter, where he helped TNT establish a 10-point lead after being behind for much of the game.

In the fourth quarter, Meralco did everything to keep the game close, but TNT, who received key contributions from their bench, was just too much for them to handle. Despite their efforts, Meralco couldn’t get closer than an 11-point deficit. Poy Erram was instrumental, as the Tropang Giga cruised past the Meralco Bolts to top the Group A standings.
